Metro’s New Stretch
Becomes Operational

The Phase 1 extension of Kochi Metro from Maharaja’s to Thykoodam was inaugurated by Shri. Pinarayi Vijayan, Chief Minister of Kerala, in the presence of Shri. Hardeep Singh Puri, Union Minister of State for Housing & Urban Affairs and a host of other dignitaries on the 3rd of September 2019. They also took a ride through the new stretch – from Maharaja's to Kadavanthra - after the inauguration.

The new stretch, which has 5 stations - Ernakulam South, Kadavanthra, Elamkulam, Vyttila and Thykoodam - will make commuting easier and faster for Kochiites, especially through high-traffic areas like Kadavanthra and Vytilla.

Construction Of Phase 1 Extension From Petta To SN Junction And Water Metro Terminal Inaugurated

Construction of the new Petta -SN junction extension stretch and the much-awaited water metro terminal were inaugurated by Shri. Pinarayi Vijayan, Chief Minister of Kerala, in the presence of Shri. Hardeep Singh Puri, Union Minister of State for Housing & Urban Affairs and a host of other dignitaries on the 3rd of September 2019, at a function held at the Rajiv Gandhi Indoor Stadium, Kochi.

Nurses Felicitated With Opening Metro Ride

KMRL honoured Nurses for their dedication and selflessness by offering them the first ride on the new stretch from Thykoodam to Maharaja's. They were accompanied by Smt. K K Shailaja Teacher, Minister of Health & Social Welfare, Kerala State.

KMRL Joins Hands With Kudumbashree

Kochi Metro signed MoU with Kudumbashree for carrying out day-to-day maintenance including station cleaning, ticket counter management and parking in the new extended stretch from Maharaja's to Thykoodam. This MoU will provide employment opportunities for many women associated with the Kudumbashree unit.

Students Join The Movement To Encourage Public Transport

The Choice School, Tripunithura, took its students on a metro ride from Thykoodam with an aim to encourage them to use public transport and reduce carbon footprints.

1-Lakh-Riders-A-Day Milestone

On 12 September 2019, Kochi Metro crossed the ‘1 Lakh plus riders a day’ mark for the first time after becoming operational 2 years ago. This also points to the fact that people are increasingly opting to travel on the metro compared to road transport, in order to save time and fuel.

KMRL Signs LoA With Cochin Shipyard

KMRL signed LoA (Letter of Agreement) with Cochin Shipyard Ltd. for constructing Aluminium hull boats for the Kochi Water Metro project, on the 7th of September 2019. The Water Metro project is expected to make commuting for people in the coastal areas of Kochi faster, easier and efficient.

KMRL Celebrates Onam In A Grand Way

Onam is the biggest festival of Kerala, which is celebrated by alike all Keralites. This year, Onam was celebrated with aplomb by KMRL at the Muttom Yard. The event featured various cultural programmes and a sumptuous Onasadhya.

New MD Of KMRL Takes Charge

Shri. Alkesh Kumar Sharma IAS assumed office as the new Managing Director of Kochi Metro on Friday, the 27th of September 2019. Prior to joining Kochi Metro, Shri. Alkesh Kumar Sharma was working as the CEO & MD of Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor Development Corporation Limited (DMICDC). He has also served as CEO of the National Industrial Corridor Development and Implementation Trust (NICDIT). A Gold Medallist in Agricultural Sciences with MBA in Rural Management, Shri. Alkesh Kumar Sharma attained IAS in the year 1990 from the IAS Kerala Cadre.

Cycle To Recycle Cyclathon

KMRL, in association with the CSML, YMCA and Kerala High Court Advocate's Association hosted a Cyclathon on 29 September 2019 as a part of Swachhatha campaign. More than 200 cyclists took part in the event, which was named ‘Cycle to Recycle’. The cyclathon was flagged off at the Kerala High Court Advocate's Association premises by Mr. Thiruman Archunan, Director (Projects) KMRL.
