Project Steering Committee

The first meeting of Project Steering Committee of the Kochi Metro Rail project was held at the Kochi Metro Rail Office today. The Project Steering Committee consists of the Managing Director, KMRL, Director (Business Development) DMRC and Director (Projects) KMRL. During todays meeting, discussions were held regarding modalities for monitoring the progress of the work, procedures to be instituted pursuant to the agreement between KMRL and DMRC, installation of a computer based Management Information System (MIS) for monitoring the progress of the works, measures for the welfare of the workers etc. The Project Steering Committee was created as per the joint agreement between KMRL & DMRC to solve the issues affecting the smooth progress of the project. Agenda of 13th Board Meeting

The Board of Directors of Kochi Metro is meeting on 5th July 2013 to take some key decisions pertaining to the Kochi Metro Rail Project. The Board is likely to finalise the agency, which will be undertaking a detailed feasibility study regarding the proposal to extend the metro network to Kakkanad, Angamaly and western Kochi. KMRL is also keen to implement a comprehensive relief and rehabilitation policy and package for whose livelihoods are affected. Consequently, the Board will be selecting an agency to study the total impact study and Rehabilitation and Resettlement Policy & Package for the project. The Board will also commission a study for the preparation of TOD development plan centered along the metro corridor and the 22 stations. KMRL held discussions with PWD, Kerala Road Fund Board, RBDCK, NHAI, DMRC and other stakeholders today. Critical aspects pertaining to key road and flyover projects of Kochi were discussed in the context of the works being undertaken for the construction of Kochi Metro as well as in the context of the need to minimize key traffic bottlenecks in the city. In respect of the Flyover at Edappally, it was decided that the land acquisition proceedings for 1.75 acres of land required for constructing the Flyover and side roads would be started immediately, invoking the urgency clause. Ved Mani Tiwari joined Kochi Metro Rail Limited as Director (Systems) today. He is a 1992 batch IRSEE officer with 23 years experience across different systems of transportation. He is possibly the youngest person to be a director of any Metro system in India. He was working as Director in the Ministry of Railways in charge of modernisation of EMUs and setting up new manufacturing facilities and procurement of new generation locomotives and EMUs. Prior to this, he was working as Joint General Manger of DMRC. Mr. Tiwari holds a degree in Electrical engineering with a unique career of almost 23 years.
