Kochi Metro: Traffic Diversion Plan Finalised – Kochi Metro: Traffic Diversion Plan Finalised

In order to solve the traffic congestion that is likely to arise in connection with the construction of Kochi Metro Rail, the traffic coordination committee has finalised an alternative traffic diversion plan.

The traffic blueprint was approved at the review meeting held here on Thursday. The special committee consists of officials of Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL), City Police, District Administration and other departments concerned.

“The alternative routes have been finalised at the meeting. However, we have decided to exclude buses from the diversion plan as it will affect the public, for, even the timings of the private buses may have to be rescheduled. So we have prepared a plan for other vehicles,” said ADGP K Padmakumar.

Long distance buses from the KSRTC bus station moving towards Aluva side should take the A L Jacob ROB to reach Kaloor via K K Road. The long distance buses to Alappuzha side should also take the A L Jacob ROB but go to Fruity junction via K K Road and head through Vyttila towards the destination point.

The light motor vehicles coming from Tripunithura, after reaching Petta, can enter the MG Road through Panamppilly Nagar by deviating from Thykkoodam Church Road to enter the Bund Road. The vehicles from Maradu and Kundannoor can enter the city via Kundannoor Bridge and Thevara Ferry road to reach the Thevara junction.

The light motor vehicles from Vyttila side should take a right turn from the Vyttila junction to reach K K Road via Ponnurunni Subhash Chandra Bose Road to reach the city  via A L Jacob ROB.

The vehicles, except buses coming through South ROB, can take a left turn from the GCDA junction and can enter the NH via K K Road, Subhash Chandra Bose Road and Ponnurunni.

“We are not forcefully implementing the traffic regulations or diversions. But hope that the public will cooperate with us and support our efforts. There will be enough signage boards that will guide the motorists take the right traffic diversions. We will also appoint more traffic wardens,” said Padmakumar. The vehicles going to Thevara and Island areas via SA Road should deviate to the left from Elamkulam junction and take the  Chilavannoor Road and Ponneth Temple Road to reach Panampilly Nagar and then enter MG Road via South ROB or Atlantis.

The vehicles going to Edappally via North ROB can take a deviation to the left from the Lissie junction through Manappattiparambu, Sastha Temple Road to reach Elamakkara Punnakkal junction to reach Changampuzha Park and can proceed to Edappally.

The vehicles that are coming from Aluva can enter the city through the Container Road after diverting from Kalamassery.

The vehicles from Aluva side, which are going towards Kottayam, Tripunithura, Kakkanad and Chottanikkara can deviate from Arayas junction at Kalamassery and enter the Sea Port-Airport Road.
