KMRL’s ambitious water metro project has seen the green light from the Government with regards to land acquisition under its various departments. Of the 7.60 hectares of total required land, 2.96 hectares of private land will eventually be acquired by the revenue department and handed over.
Approval has been documented for lands under the possession of The Inland Waterways Department, Kochi Port Trust and the Local Self Government. A detailed project will be submitted by KMRL once the acquisition is done.
KMRL hopes to complete its initial phase within 10 months. 19 boat jetties and 23 boats have be planned under this phase. With the introduction of the project, Kochi city will see a considerable reduction in its traffic and pollution.
