Evolve E-Mobility Expo: Driving A Change
|
|
|
Kerala’s Mobility Conference and
Expo, in association with KMRL as the
nodal agency, was held at the Grand
Hyatt, Bolgatty Island, Kochi on the
29th and 30th of June 2019. Named
“Evolve E- Mobility Expo”, this event
was inaugurated by Shri. Pinarayi
Vijayan, Chief Minister of Kerala, in
the presence of a host of dignitaries
including Shri. Amitabh Kanth IAS,
CEO – NITI (National Institution
for Transforming India) Aayog
India; Shri. Hibi Eden, Member of
Parliament, Ernakulam; Shri. Tom
Jose IAS, Chief Secretary, Government
of Kerala; Shri KR Jyothylal IAS,
Principal Secretary – Transport,
Government of Kerala and KMRL
Officials.
The first event of its kind in the state,
Evolve showcased several innovative
ideas aimed at replacing fossil-fuel
vehicles with eco-friendly,
non-polluting electric vehicles (EV).
Evolve also marked the start of a
new revolution, with Chief Minister
Shri. Pinarayi Vijayan announcing
one million e-vehicles on Kerala’s
roads by 2022. This will include a
pilot fleet of 3,000 buses, 2,00,000
two-wheelers, 50,000 three-wheelers
and 1,000 goods carriers. Shri.
Amitabh Kanth IAS, CEO – NITI
(National Institution for Transforming
India) Aayog India extended full
support to the State Government for
this ground-breaking initiative.
Kerala is one of biggest markets in
the country for petrol and diesel
vehicles. The flipside of this demand
is increasing pollution levels – the
air that we breathe in is increasingly
becoming toxic with the pollutants
emitted by these vehicles.

Shri. APM Mohammed Hanish IAS
MD, KMRL
Though there’s a significant rise in the
use of e-vehicles, the level of awareness
regarding the need to change is still low.
With Evolve, KMRL and the Government of
Kerala have successfully taken the first
step towards bringing about a sustainable
change, through innovation, practical
implementation and awareness creation.
Evolve featured over 80 eminent speakers
from across the world and 42 stalls that
showcased innovative e-mobility solutions.
As a part of the event, an e-vehicle
charging point was commissioned at the
Indian Oil Petrol Pump in Edapally, where
vehicles can be charged for free for the
first 3 months. Vehicle owners will need to
pay only according to the usage after the
3-month free tenure. Kerala Automobile
Limited (KAL) also signed a pact with Swiss
automobile company Carrosserie Hess AG
to manufacture 3000 e-buses for KSRTC.
We at KMRL believe that Kerala, which
always has been the frontrunner when it
comes to innovation and development,
will soon emerge as a shining example
to the entire world by changing over to
environment-friendly mobility.
