Growing a better world.
Thalir, an organic farming initiative by KMRL has received its first yield of 17 kg cowpeas and 4 kg spinach. The initiative was implemented by the rail authority in collaboration with the Agricultural Department, and nearly 30 cents of land in Muttom yard was used for farming activities. Assisting the project was Krishibhavan from Choornikkara, that contributed 800 grow bags to further the efforts.
Thalir was inaugurated on 9th November, 2018. Through the initiative, vegetables like amaranthus, chilli, tomato, cabbage, cauliflower, okra, brinjal, mint and cowpea are cultivated in this area. The first round of produce was purchased by the staff at KMRL, and through this programme, the authority hopes to set an example for safe practises in farming.
The harvest was inaugurated by the Panchayath President of Choornikkara, Shri A P Udayakunar. The event was attended by several other dignitaries like KMRL Director of Systems Mr D K Sinha, Director of Finance Mr Kumar K R, Director of Projects Mr Thiruman Archunan, and Agriculture Officer of Choornikkara Krishi Bhavan Mr John Sherry, besides Panchayath Members and KMRL employees.
