PM inaugurates Kochi Metro; takes first ride with Sreedharan, Kerala CM - Kochi Metro Rail Ltd.

In a welcome move, Kochi Metro has hired 23 transgenders and trained them to be posted with ticketing, customer care and housekeeping departments.

The PM cut the inaugural ribbon At the Kochi Metro’s Palarivattom station PM did the inaugurating by cutting the ribbon. Then from the Palarivattom station, he travelled to Pathadippalam station.

During the maiden journey of the Kochi Metro, Urban Development Secretary Rajiv Gouba and Kerala chief secretary Nalini Netto were also present.

The commercial operation of the metro will start from June 19. The first commercial train will start to run at 6 am.

On the day, trains will begin operations simultaneously from Aluva and Palariv stations.

Kochi Metro had hired transgender community members with an aim to bring them into the mainstream.

It had also added that it should not be seen just as a means of transport, but also a livelihood improvement project.

Kochi Metro also addressed as the ‘water metro’ will be the country’s first integrated multi-model transport system.

Kochi Metro is extensively using solar panels On the final 25-km full stretch of the rail line as many as 22 stations will have solar panels.
