Today’s meeting with PWD,NHAI & other Agencies regarding Edappally Fly Over

KMRL held discussions with PWD, Kerala Road Fund Board, RBDCK, NHAI, DMRC and other stakeholders today. Critical aspects pertaining to key road and flyover projects of Kochi were discussed in the context of the works being undertaken for the construction of Kochi Metro as well as in the context of the need to minimize key traffic bottlenecks in the city.

In respect of the Flyover at Edappally, it was decided that the land acquisition proceedings for 1.75 acres of land required for constructing the Flyover and side roads would be started immediately, invoking the urgency clause. The road level would also have to be raised over the Edappally canal to provide a clear vent way for water transport. A n MoU would be entered into by KMRL with the other nodal agencies; viz. NHAI, the KRFB and DMRC for executing the project. The flyover construction would commence at the earliest with first priority being given to two parallel side roads and also widening for existing bridge over Edappally canal.

Regarding the widening of Vyttila- Petta road, it was decided that the land acquisition would be done by invoking the urgency clause. It is expected that the land acquisition can be completed on a fast-track mode. Advance action would be taken for commencing the widening work by the PWD, by the time land acquisition is complete.

In respect of widening the Thammanam- Pulleppady road, it was decided that the land acquisition for the balance land would be fast tracked and action would also be taken to undertake road-widening work by the time land was made available. The possibility of funding the road creation component under JNURM would also be examined after due consultation with Cochin Corporation.

It was also decided that the work on widening and black capping the NH from Pulinchodu to Edappally would be taken up on the emergent basis for accommodating the existing breadth of traffic flow during the time of the construction of the metro.

KMRL MD Elias George presided over the meeting. T.O. Sooraj, Secretary, PWD, Shiek Pareeth, District Collector, Mahesh Kumar and Ved Mani Tiwari Directors of KMRL, K.P. Prabhakaran, Chief Engineer, NH- PWD, Ramanathan, PD, NHAI (Palakkad), C.T. Abraham, PD, NHAI (Cochin), P. Sreeram, PD, DMRC, Sudarshanan Pillai, GM, KRFB and other senior officials from KMRL, DMRC, Cochin Corporation, PWD,KRFB and Revenue Department were also present in the meeting.
