KMRL O&M is proud to present its Sustainability
Report for the financial year 2023-24. This report
highlights our commitment to delivering a world-
class public transport system that prioritizes not
just operational excellence but also environmental
and social responsibility.
The year 2023-24 witnessed several significant
milestones for KMRL. On March 6th, 2024, we
marked the completion of Phase 1 with the
inauguration of the Thrippunithura station.
Looking beyond ridership, we have explored many
innovative revenue generation strategies, such as
successfully leasing out dark fibers there by
creating a new income stream.
KMRL continue to strive for operational efficiency through technological
advancements. We are taking a bold step towards self-reliance by launching a
train spare parts indigenization program, aiming to manufacture essential
components locally and reduce dependence on foreign imports.
Environmental sustainability remains a key focus. Phase 2 of the project has
been designed with sustainability in mind, featuring a comprehensive rainwater
harvesting system across stations and the depot. Additionally, we established
an in-house signalling lab dedicated to repairing non-vital signalling spares,
promoting environmental responsibility and cost-effectiveness.
KMRL continuously striving to enhance our services by implementing innovative
strategies. Passenger engagement programs have been instrumental in
boosting ridership. By actively listening to passenger feedback and addressing
their needs, KMRL have witnessed a significant increase in daily ridership.
Furthermore, KMRL prioritize safety as a core value and conduct regular safety
audits and mock drills involving external agencies to ensure a secure
environment for our staff and passengers.
