Retrofitting Track Fastenings to Mitigate Stray
Current
As part of ongoing infrastructure improvements, the track section between MUTT and
KLMT on the UP line has undergone retrofitting by replacing the existing Vossloh 336
fastenings with the new and improved 336iw fastenings. This upgrade was executed
using available balance spares from Phase 1 projects, ensuring cost-effective
utilization of resources. The retrofitting work, covering a total stretch of 2 kilometers,
has now been successfully completed. The primary objective of this initiative is to
mitigate stray current interference, which can cause corrosion in adjacent metallic
structures and disrupt signaling systems. Additionally, the 336iw fastenings enhance
the floating properties of the track, improving electrical isolation and reducing leakage
currents.
