Below figure shows the process of Risk Assessment and its responses
Safety Decision Making
System risk is the totality of all safety risks to passengers, employees, suppliers and other
affected parties that arise due to KMRL operations as follows:
Risks arising of KMRL actions or failures;
Risks imported by passengers and other third parties e.g. suppliers.
KMRL has a duty to ensure the risks arising out of its operations are as low as reasonably
practicable (ALARP). This requires KMRL to look for ways to improve safety and to
determine whether it is worthwhile to make these improvements. In doing this, KMRL
considers the existing level of risk, the risk reduction that the improvement would provide,
and the cost and difficulty of making that improvement.
Best practices should generally be considered to adequately demonstrate that risks are
being controlled at a level that is ALARP. In determining best practice, KMRL considers the
safest option that is in use in the Metro Railway Industry and Main Line Railways.
