3.Direct handling of maintenance by metro operator.
So far this approach is the most prevalent model to manage the maintenance of the
systems.
Benefits: Metro operators will be having the full control over the maintenance. The
staffs can be trained for managing systems and reducing dependancy on the OEMs.
The cost of maintenance can be substantially reduced. Non-core activities can be
outsourced keeping the core activities to be performed by own staffs. New technology
can be introduced easily.
Drawbacks: As this model success depends on the trained staffs, so retaining the
talent is the most important aspect. A proper documentation of processes and
knowledge sharing can help to some extent.

Maintenance of various systems in a
metro organisation is the most critical
function which ensures minimum
disruption to the metro operation.A
proper approach for the overall
maintenance should be decided by the
operators after carefully studying all the
aspects and capabilities. Though
Multiple models are prevalent in Indian
metros, but no particular approach can
be termed as the best and suitable for all
the metros. A properly selected model
will give big dividend and peace of mind
in the long run.
