     UPS System Optimization
The E&M department is proposing a strategic initiative to optimize the
Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) system across stations, from ALVA
to PETT. Currently, two parallel UPS systems, typically rated at 15/20
kVA each, cater to critical loads at each station. These loads include
essential lighting for stations and lifts, fire alarm control panels, elevator
and escalator monitoring panels, gas flooding systems, and power
             outlets in Staff Control Rooms.
The existing setup utilizes separate UPS systems from different
manufacturers for E&M and S&T systems. Given the limited lifespan of
UPS battery banks (approximately 4-5 years), a cost-saving opportunity
has been identified. This proposal outlines a plan to migrate the E&M
UPS load to the existing S&T UPS systems. By making necessary
modifications to the E&M Low Tension (LT) panels, this migration can be
             achieved seamlessly.
A trial migration of E&M loads to S&T UPS systems has been
successfully conducted at AATK and ERSH stations, demonstrating the
feasibility of this approach. Full-scale implementation is expected to yield
significant cost savings. The estimated savings include approximately six
lakh rupees per station for E&M UPS battery banks and thirteen lakh
rupees per station for E&M UPS Comprehensive Annual Maintenance
Contracts across 22 stations. This translates to a total potential cost
avoidance of Rs 1,45,00,000/- (Rupees One Crore Forty-Five Lakhs
             Only).
This UPS migration proposal presents a compelling opportunity to
enhance operational efficiency and generate substantial cost savings for
KMRL. By streamlining the UPS system and leveraging existing
infrastructure, the E&M department aims to ensure reliable power supply
for critical loads while optimizing resource allocation.
