Ensuring Reliability:

In-house Relay Testing at STC Department

Kochi Metro's signaling system relies on Q-series relays for seamless

communication between field circuits and smart IO equipment.

However, as these relays age and stored replacements accumulate

shelf time, their functionality needs verification before deployment. To

address this, Kochi Metro's engineers have developed an ingenious in-

house solution – a relay test jig.

             This custom-designed device

             allows technicians to

             thoroughly assess each relay's

             performance before integration

             into the system. The testing

             process evaluates critical

             parameters such as maximum

             pick-up voltage (the minimum

             voltage required to activate the

             relay), minimum drop-away

             voltage (the voltage at which
             the relay deactivates), and

             contact make/break

             functionality (ensuring proper

             circuit opening and closing).

             Following each test, a detailed

             report is generated, providing

a clear picture of the relay's

             health.

This in-house relay test jig guarantees the reliability and safety of their

signaling system. By meticulously testing each relay before deployment,

they minimize the risk of malfunctions.
