For most Malayalees, a pothichoru is the ideal meal, filled with goodness and a feeling of home. Albeit not wrapped in plantain leaves, KMRL’s initiative to deliver meals to its staff in steel carriers has arrived at the same purpose – to reduce waste and create a more sustainable alternative. The rail authority arrived at the decision considering a rise in plastic waste due to a surge in online food delivery services. Under the initiative, all three meals will be prepared by a Kudumbasree unit in Choornikkara and delivered to the staff at a reasonable Rs 40 per meal. The tiffin carriers will be available at the storage depot, under the name of the employees, on a returnable basis.
Wrapping the city with conscious choices, once again, KMRL speeds ahead to a greener future.
