Kochi Metro Rail Limited, Government of Kerala and German funding agency KFW entered into a tripartite agreement of Accompanying Measures for the Water Metro Project on 4 December 2019. The 1.8 Million Euros grant as per the agreement will be used for identifying capacity building in the operation and maintenance wing of the Water Metro Project, which includes employee training requirements/modalities as well as Trainer education.
The project was signed at a function attended by Ms. Angelica Angelika Zwicky, Project Manager –Urban Development and Mobility, KfW, Mr. Jyothilal IAS, Principal Secretary – Transport, Government of Kerala and Mr. Alkesh Kumar Sharma IAS, MD – KMRL.
“We are happy to inform that the tripartite agreement of Accompanying Measures has been signed. This will help us set up a high-efficiency operational and management wing for the Water Metro project and also provide better training for employees. KMRL is committed to completing the project in a time-bound manner “, said Mr. Alkesh Kumar Sharma IAS, MD – KMRL.
Mr. K R Jyothilal IAS, Principal Secretary – Transport, Government of Kerala, said that water transport in the country is still an unexplored sector and Kerala is proud to be home to India’s first water metro project. “Kochi Water Metro is going to be a unique project that integrates road and water transport with a single card. The project will also lend a new dimension to clean and green mobility, ” he said.
KMRL officials also held detailed discussions with Ms. Angelica Zwicky and her team regarding various aspects of project and timely completion.
