Kochi Metro Rail Limited has taken yet another step in the direction of the ambitious Water Metro Project.
The contract for the construction of Vyttila, Eroor and Kakkanad terminals has been granted to Marymatha Construction Company. These three terminals form the first phase of the much-awaited project.
“The tender process involved four bidders, besides Marymatha. It was finally granted for Rs 29.67 crores,” Mr APM Mohammed Hanish, MD, KMRL commented. “With the selection of a company through a rigorous tendering process, we have moved one more step closer towards the realisation of the project. We have already received NOC for the use of government land, and expect to start the construction at the earliest. With an area of 25,000 sq. ft including commercial parts, it will be the biggest in terms of space covered.”
The Operations Control Centre of the Water Metro Project will be stationed at Vyttila. Tenders with
regards to the construction of terminals at High Court, Fort Kochi, Mattancherry, Vypeen and Bolgatty are progressing at a faster pace. With the development of Water Metro, Kochi can soon experience a more convenient and organized transportation system.
